G20 Delegates Immune from Smoking Ban

Update : The Daily Mail has got hold of the story now :) Oh Good, if anyone can blow it all out of proportion, they can!

Labour has been accused of double standards for amending legislation to allow world leaders to use smoking rooms during the G20 economic conference. Dozens of heads of state, politicians and diplomats will be meeting at the Excel Exhibition Centre in Docklands, London, next month. It is believed that laws have been changed to get around the smoking ban and provide specialist rooms that the visiting dignitaries can use.

Smoking in all enclosed public spaces and places of work was banned under the Health Act 2006, and came into force in England in 2007. It is not clear which Government department has amended the law for the venue or whether is only a temporary measure. But the Foreign and Common Office, who is hosting the event, said it was aware of the smoking rooms and has launched an investigation.

Local authority Newham Council is also looking into the matter as environmental health officers in charge were not aware of the amendment. Critics say the Government is flouting the ban and should apply the same concession to struggling businesses.

Smoking campaign group Freedom2choose chairman Andy Davis said: 'This clearly demonstrates that there are alternative solutions to the current smoking ban that our government is ignoring. 'Smoking rooms would provide welcome relief for our hospitality industry with the ban being acknowledged as one of the major factors in its current downturn. 'Our government is accommodating the political leaders from across the globe, yet they are not prepared to accommodate millions of their own citizens.

'This concession should now be made available to all private businesses and clubs for them to adopt if they so desire.' Conservative MP Anne Widdecombe said: 'It's one law for one, and one for another, and I think that sums up this Government.'

Unbelievable, I just read Dick Puddlecote's blog and he says the smoking ban is being lifted for the G20 summit. I'm bloody gobsmacked.

Dick has the full story here

What hypocrisy! This is SO not right. They're getting a smoking lounge! While the rest of the UK are ordered not to smoke ANYWHERE and pubs and clubs are closing... these fucking hyprocrites are getting a smoking lounge.

Are we stupid plebs or what?

Parents Face Court Action

Just to show I'm not always picking on minorities, this has me seething HERE... Christian and Muslim parents have objected to their children being taught lessons on gay and lesbian history, so kept them from school and they now face court action.

This is a PRIMARY school. Now, I'm all for sexual equality, gay rights, blah, blah... but please don't teach primary school children about gay history. It's just not "cricket".... teach them British History, Maths, English, anything.. but primary school teachers have no business teaching 9 and 10 year old children about homosexuality.

I would have pulled mine out of school too. I took responsibility for my children's sex education when I thought they were ready and chose the method by which I explained it... that was MY job as a parent!

This school has gone beyond its responsibilities as an educational establishment, this is indocrination of a most heinous kind. This is taking the responsibility of the childs moral welfare out of the hands of its parents and giving it to the state. This is completely unacceptable!

Digital Britain

The Government have announced it's grand scheme "Broadband for All" as some kind of great technological wonder for the UK taxpayer. In reality, this is part of it's "Big Brother Surveillance" initiative. What better way to spy on our emails and surfing habits than to have everything nicely packaged in one place.

It's reported that this scheme will be financed by major operators, who will of course report every single little move we make to the Stasi.

Additionally, it is also an opportunity for the government to slap on a nice licensing fee, provide more government propaganda via adverts and popups and charge you for the privilege. The Daily Mail's main story today has concentrated on the fact that each household will be liable for a £20 "pirate tax" to cover illegal downloading, whether you participate in the activity or not.

It should be noted by the British Government that not all of us use P2P for illegal filesharing. The environment also allows users to share a myriad of free software and literature, which would not otherwise be easily found or downloaded. This sort of filesharing is vital for libraries, schools and technology developers alike.

For those who are interested and perhaps under the assumption that all EU countries are operating in the same criminal way as the UK, think again.

Spain does not.: From WIKI

In Spain the Spanish Supreme Court recently ruled that personal data associated with an IP address could only be disclosed in the course of a criminal investigation or for public safety reasons (Productores de Música de España v. Telefónica de España SAU).[46] File sharing is legal for private use if it is done without any profit purpose and a police chief of the technology squad has publicly said "No pasa nada. Podéis bajar lo que queráis del eMule. Pero no lo vendáis." ("It's ok. You can download whatever you want with eMule. But don't sell it.").

I have been reliably informed that as long as I stick to downloading overnight, nobody gives a shit!

One law for us, one for them!

Our Nazi Government now allows bailiffs for private firms to forcefully enter our homes and restrain us if necessary in order to collect outstanding debts! I don't agree with extension of power but some people would argue that debts just have to be paid.

The trouble with giving private companies these sorts of powers is they tend to abuse them. Just as wheel clamping was abused, this will be abused but the consequences are far more serious than simply having to pay extortionate fines to get your car back.

I was incensed to read of the death of Mr Andy Miller. Mr Miller had been in hospital after suffering a heart attack and then he was in a coma before being allowed home Christmas Eve. A magistrate had granted the order for collection despite being warned by Mr Millers' sons that he had been seriously ill. The fine was a £60 speeding fine, bumped up to a ridiculous £330 with added administration costs.

The bailiffs drove him into town to find a cash point which would dispense the amount that they demanded. He collapsed during the ordeal and died.

The taxpayer (I'm sure non of you gave permission), has been forced to write off a £2.5 billion debt that is owed by Russian businessman Leonid Blavatnik to the RBS. This oligarth owns a property in Kensington worth £41 million.

NOW I AM CONFUSED, WHY WEREN'T THE BAILIFFS FORCING ENTRY INTO HIS HOME TO RECOVER WHAT HE OWED?
