Hitting the Soft Targets - European Style

Police in up to 14 countries around Europe have coordinated to carry out raids against suspected file-sharing servers this morning. Locations in The Netherlands, Czech Republic and Hungary were targeted but Sweden appears to have borne the brunt of the action. Seven locations including PRQ, which hosts WikiLeaks, have been raided.

This morning news is coming in which indicates that very significant raids against illicit file-sharing are taking place in locations across Europe.

Police in up to 14 European countries are said to be involved in an operation, said to be in the planning for two years, targeting the Warez Scene, the network of individuals and servers at the top of the so-called ‘Piracy Pyramid’.

Details are scarce at the moment, but it is believed that at the behest of Belgian authorities, raids have gone ahead in The Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Germany, Great Britain, Czech Republic, Hungary and Sweden.

Not unusually, Sweden appears to have borne the brunt of the activity with a total of seven locations raided including Stockholm, Malmö, Umeå, Eskilstuna and Solna.

That's about all they can manage. Arrest filesharers. God forbid that they catch any terrorists, slavers, drug cartells etc.... After all, that might actually be dangerous!

No, let's hit "ordinary people"....again.

BUNCH OF STATIST BASTARDS!

Oh Dear

The Government today put it's datasets up online here. (Don't ask me what they are datasets about, I haven't a clue).

I believe they have to be analysed first by some bright spark who knows how to use these figures. CSV files are what my movie database exports to, so I assume these are similar.

The Guardian is doing a live blog on the analyses which is being performed by mySociety.

What I did notice was that you can download the datasets in zip form or by downloading a torrent file which of course you use with filesharing software like utorrent, the same software that people use to download illegal files with.

God Forbid that anyone gets reported using "filesharing" technology and accused of downloading illicit or copyrighted material and then subsequently gets disconnected!

Not bright at all.....

Copyright Infringement and the Digital Economy Bill

Taken from the Telegraph

After the shock, horror of the Ashes to Ashes ripoff involving Labours portrayal of Cameron as Gene Hunt, it seems Keane are horrifed and shocked that the Conservatives have nicked one of their songs without their permission.

Taken from Metro

You see gentlemen... how easy it is to fall foul of the thousands of statutes and ridiculous rules you have setup to protect big money industries? There has to be compromise.

All you do is to create a climate of fear and we lose out on our freedoms. But then again, I don't expect you will suffer as a consequence.

Don't you just love the Italians? (Click to enlarge the picture).

Taken from Torrentfreak

Just for those who are worried, the above link on this site gives you alternatives for downloading all your legal stuff via torrent. It has to be said that there are thousands of legal files on these sites too. Many of them are opensource, linux and books from Gutenberg, which are all free. The potential for mistakes is overwhelming.
