A top US diplomat has urged the UK to rule out any possibility of the country ever quitting the EU.
The demand by Louis Susman, America's ambassador to the UK, comes amid growing public scepticism about the EU and its institutions. Opinion polls regularly show that support for EU membership is among the lowest of any member state.
The debate about UK membership is again in the news as the government's EU Bill, a key piece of legislation, currently works its way through the British parliament.
UK premier David Cameron has pledged to hold a referendum in the event of any future EU treaty changes.
The plan for a "referendum lock", contained in the Bill would ensure "significant" EU treaties must be approved by a referendum of UK voters, with the same rule in place for major changes to existing treaties.
But, speaking in parliament on Tuesday, Susman signalled that Washington wants a clearer British commitment to remain in the EU, saying "I want to stress that the UK needs to remain in the EU.
"The US does not want to see Britain's role in the EU diminished in any way
Perhaps Mr Susman ought to be reminded that the UK is STILL A DEMOCRACY and to mind his own fucking business!
Perhaps the question is why Obummer sanctioned this very public intervention in the affairs of another sovereign state... Sorry EU region.
ReplyDeleteMy question exactly. You have to ask why the US would like us to stay in the EU. I'm sure cleverer people than I will be able to offer suggestions, but it's a question that needs asking.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Graun did their campaign to get people in Ohio to vote Democrat as part of their anti-Bush wankfest the Americans quite reasonably asked what the fuck it had to do with them, and who the fuck the Graun thought it was. Time to ask the same back of the US government - I'm sure the voters of Ohio would understand.
ReplyDeleteObama has just had his recent love in with Sarkozy.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the NWO is concerned, I expect that the UK is pretty crucial in the big plan.

Not possible. Whether they like it or not, laws can be changed.
No matter WHAT they say NOW, it has only the viability span of "till the politicians get bored with it".
You can NOT make laws forbidding the changes in law.
They're a bunch of idiots.
ReplyDeleteUS wants UK to remain firmly in the grip of the EU superstate for the purpose of demonstrating it as successful and using it as excuse to place the US under firm grip of the American Union, when the times comes to introduce it here. Then the US can become a numbered region, the same way UK has become and everyone will think it perfectly fine, since of course UK has done it, then so why shouldn't the US. That's why I think they would have suggested it.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Orwell, we were always going to be 'Airstrip One'.
