The Latest IPSOS/MORI Poll gives the Conservatives a 20 point lead over labour...
DEAD MAN WALKING ON THE GREEN MILE!

After a brief and rather surreal blip in which he appeared to be absolutely delighted by the economic crisis, Gordon Brown once again looks like a dead man walking. His own Cabinet colleagues conspire with loyal Labour commentators to undermine him with rumours of a leadership challenge, or a face-saving escape route for him to a position on the global stage. This is the terminal phase of a prime minister's decline, generally recognisable to everyone except the leader himself

a party that remains in power under a grossly unpopular leader can stagger on long enough to become not just discredited but utterly loathed. 

The longer a failing prime minister defies gravity and clings to office, the more likely his party is to become hated with a visceral intensity that can keep it in the wilderness for a political generation
