Banks Still Ripping Us Off

Miss Muffled was in tears to me today. It seems her ISP neglected to take out their monthly charge for January and she didn't notice. They decided to take it out yesterday and there weren't sufficient funds in her account and she was charged £38 for the mistake. 

I'm surprised this is still happening. The adminstrative charge is more than the payment she should have made to the ISP. What on earth is going on?

We need to boycott banks that do this. I do not use my bank account here to pay bills by direct debit. 

I get a bill, I pay cash. It costs me nothing to pay cash and I pay when the invoice is due. It's an old fashioned way of doing things, but I'm very happy with it.
