    It's Our Gordon...He's spent the Christmas Club money on a cheap tart and now We have to wonder if he left a parcel or small box with you for safekeeping - perhaps with a note beginning 'By the time you read this...?'

    The Queen was probably enquiring about the safety of her investments, and alerting the Governor to the likely heavy use of Bank of England Nominees as she transfers assets into safer currencies.
